Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Police state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Police then located many other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials report early analysis show the substance was most likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; investigators are presently not aware of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for details.
An important political figure stated the vandalism rendered him without words and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right attack five years ago," he wrote on online, recalling the death of nine people by a shooter targeting people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
